1961-1977 - a period devoted to choral songwriting, to intensive academic and journalistic activities, to the development of the amateur musical artistic activities, to tireless participation in the work of the Union of Bulgarian Composers.

1961 - writes the poem “My motherland”, for a mixed choir.

1961 - in the month of May, is elected as a member of the Presidium of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (until 1973).

1961 - writes a cycle of children’s songs: “A night over the camp”, lyrics by G. Aleksiev; “Autumn”, lyrics by Em. Popdimimitrov; “A partisans’ pine-tree”, lyrics by St. Goergiev; “Before the vacation”, lyrics by G. Aleksiev; and “Spring”, lyrics by As. Raztsvetnikov.

1961 - writes the song ‘Three paths”, for a female choir, on lyrics by P. Lalovski.

1961 - the 65-th anniversary of the composer is officially celebrated; he is awarded the People’s Republic of Bulgaria Order, I degree.

1961 - in the month of November, represents the People’s Republic of Bulgaria and the Union of Bulgarian Composers at the International Congress of Composers in Berlin.

1962 - in his quality of a member of the Presidium of the Union of Bulgarian Composers participates in the Week of Bulgarian Music in the Stara Zagora region (6 - 13 May).

1962 - by a resolution of the Council of Ministers is selected as a member of the Governmental Dimitrov’s Awards Commission.

1963 - one of the initiators and active organizers of the Rozhen Singing Contest, which consolidates the experience of the previous contests in Gramatikovo, Elhovo, and Dobrich, and becomes a traditional folklore music forum.

1963 - awarded the “Cyril and Methodius” Order, I degree.

1964 - in his quality of a member of the Presidium of the Union of Bulgarian Composers, participates in the Festival of Bulgarian Symphonic Music in Rousse (20.03 - 05.04).

1964 - in his quality of a member of the Presidium of the Union of Bulgarian Composers, participates in the George Ionescu International Festival in Bucharest (11.09.64).

1965 - one of the initiators and organizers of the First National Folklore Festival in Koprivshtitsa.

1966 - on April 10, the composer’s wife passes away.

1966 - the composer’s 70-th anniversary is officially celebrated; he is awarded the “Hero of Socialist Labor” title.

1967 - appointed Chairman of the National Amateur Artistic Activities Council at the Committee for Arts and Culture.

1967 - a collection of selected articles, “Petko Stainov on the Bulgarian Musical Culture”, is published, compiled by Agapiya Balareva and Elena Toncheva, edited by Venelin Krustev.

1969 - by a resolution of the Secretariat of the Union of Bulgarian Composers, represents the Union at the Week of Bulgarian Music in the USSR (16 - 30.09.69).

1971 - the composer’s 75-th anniversary is officially celebrated; he is awarded the “G. Dimitrov” Order.

1972 - the Presidium of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences appoints him as a member of the Main Editorial Board of the “Bulgaria” encyclopedia.

1976 - the composer’s 80-th anniversary is officially celebrated

1977 - Petko Stainov passes away in Sofia on June 25.
